In this tutorial I thought it would be fun to make 2 apps. I make an app that grabs weather map data dynamically and displays it. I also make an app that shows how to use the camera, image picker and TinyDB with App Inventor.
I got the maps from the Weather Underground and weather.com. All together I show how to display images from the internet, take pictures, retrieve images from the gallery, store pictures in TinyDB, resize your app to fit any device and more. The blocks used can be found under the video below.

Why doesn’t anyone warn people about Pura Vita Apps !!
They are EVIL and the worst thing about the internet
My browser has been hijacked by search.conduit.com placed there by Pura Vita Apps, you need to warn people !!
I tried to download their so-called SQLite w/ java code helper and they completely took over my machine!
I’m sorry to hear that. I’m not sure what Pura Vita Apps is but I’ll stay away from it.
Hi I have a query.
Is there any way to make my app run in the background like whatsapp?? When i use the block (control – closescreen) will it run the app in the background??
The app is running in the background and can respond to system events unless it is completely closed.
Absolutely love this series. Can you do a tutorial on adding an Adsense banner to an app?
It is pretty simple. You just refer to the ad just like you would with HTML. I’ll be getting back into Java Android tutorials very soon and I’ll cover that.
You’re the man Derek. Thanks for all the tutorials.
Thank you very much 🙂
Derek, you’re tutorials are the best! I’m late to programming and my interest and desires are way beyond my abilities at the moment, but I’ll keep working. I’m wondering have you put together an Android TTS demo? I’m interested in building an App that will address the person by name and then broadcast an event or short message. Something like, “Hi Derek, here’s a Pirmanti Brothers coupon.” Not that Pirmanti Brothers has coupon’s but wouldn’t it be great if the did?
All the best and keep up the good work!
Thank you 🙂 I will start the new Android tutorials in the next few days. I’ll make a translation app that will use text to speech. I hope it helps 🙂
