You Win a Phone if I LaughI still have 4 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phones to give away. For the next contest I wanted to do something very fun.

To enter you basically need to make a 2 minute or less video explaining why you should win. The video that is the funniest to me wins. Make sure the video isn’t offensive in any way. That is basically the only requirement. Don’t think the video has to be fancy in any way. I just want you to make some people laugh. The deadline for entry is April 30th.

How to Enter

  • Record a funny video about why you should win
  • Upload it to YouTube
  • Post the link to the video in the comments below
  • I may decide to use a clip from the video in a future video if I decide to have the community vote on the winner
  • I won’t use any of your personal information in any way
  • Feel free to post a link to this using any of the social networks below

  2. Just a point of clarification, the subject of the video could be anything, right? It does not have to be me uttering why I should win, right? 🙂 Can the reason why I should win is merely implied in the video?

    even if you did not start receiving apps for the contest just
    the requirement.

    1. For the app part of the tutorial I just require people to make an Android app using any tool they want. Some place in the app you’ll have to post an email that I can use to contact you. That is just to verify I get the prize to the right person. It can be a throw away email, but I need that. That is the only rule except that it can’t be hurtful in any way to people in regards to race, religion or overly violent.

      1. Thank you for the nice feedback Sir Derek, I’m a training Instructor of computer school. We will plan to put Java Programming and Android Development as our subject by next semester. I’m so very happy because of your great tutorials it really help to our students and I will recommend your channel and this website to them for references.

        2. Very funny video. My friend, I don”t know if things are different where you are, but if you pay cellular service, most companies “give” you a free phone when you sign up with them.Perhaps not a Note 3, but some pretty nice phones. If you had a Note 3, you’d have to pay a “lot” more money, because they make you pay a lot extra for internet on a smart phone, “any” smart phone. And they will not let you use a smart phone as a basic non-internet phone. I know, because I tried. If you need to call family and you are broke, use one of the free telephony programs on your computers. Even Google has one now. Good luck and God bless. A.H. : )

  13. one of the challenge should be a science :). i’m learning physics in Mataram University and i’m planning to make android app for science learning like simulations but i don’t have any android device to try it(it’s too expensive for me). i’m feeling sad that all of your challenge not suited for me.
    But as long as you keep upload great video tutorials, it’s OK. Cause your tutorials worth much more than $900 :).

    1. Thank you very much for the compliment 🙂 One of the contests will probably just require people to write me a short story. For the video it doesn’t have to be fancy. If someone just sat at a web cam and told me popular jokes from their country they may very well win. I will be judging on whether I laugh or not and nothing else will matter. I hope you consider submitting a video. I’d love to see it 🙂

          1. luckly the car drove slow so nothing worse happened to me but my phone fell on the corner of a brick and broke 🙁
            I don’t know if you do know the robot but it is Atlas from portal 2, thats why there are portals in the video 😉

    The biggest challenge was to reduce our 7-minute video to 2 minutes.

        Hi, Derek. Please take another look at my video. The sound effects weren’t audible, and they are half the comedy. It’s mostly fixed, but you should set the volume so you can barely hear the narration, because the sound effect volumes won’t adhere for some reason and will play very loud by comparison. Please let me know what you think and sorry about the imperfection of my audio.

    First I want to thank you for all of the help you’ve given me through your tutorials. I’ve been learning android development for just a few months now and your tutorials have helped me understand things better than any other tutorials I’ve ever tried.

I was just so worried that people would think he was my wife even though he was just pretending to be my wife. I hope my explanation made it clear though lol. You know because I like girls. Or I should say I like girl (my wife).

  31. Everyone did great, but I don’t understand how several peeps just ignored the two minute time limit. Is right in the description and we all could have packed in more funny stuff with more time. Oh well, that’s up to Derek.

    1. I’m told all of the time that I’m the happiest person people know. First you have to be healthy. By healthy i just mean you have to be at a healthy weight and you need to eat healthy food. I have a ton of recipes on my site about that.

      Then you need to become successful. I think Tony Robbins said that this was the definition of success and I agree with him.

      Success is being able to do :

      1. What you want
      2. Where you want
      3. With the people you want
      4. As much as you want

      I think people struggle most with finding what they want to do. I think that is the only goal in life. Surround yourself with only good people that improve your lifestyle.

      It will take you a few years to achieve this, but it will happen if you dedicate yourself to it. About 5 years ago I decided I was going to do it. It was hard, but worth it. I decided I wanted to have a life that allowed me to make money while learning. I also wanted to be able to help others and if possible do so for free.

      I used to be a stockbroker and I had the privilege to meet many self made millionaires. I asked them how to be successful. They told me there are only 2 ways :

      1. Find a bunch of people that were willing to make you more money then you had to pay them.
      2. Or, develop a skill that allows you to create something once that pays you over and over.

      The number 2 option was the easiest for me because it didn’t require any money. I offered business owners a free shopping cart if they paid me a percentage of all profits forever. Now I had my stream of constant income. And, if they were making money they were happy to pay me.
